Is occupational asthma a common condition?

Answer

Although occupational asthma is the most common occupational lung disease in developed countries, very few prevalence data has been published for many developing countries including the Philippines.

Occupational exposures have been estimated to cause 5-15% of adult-onset asthma. The prevalence of occupational asthma due to agents with high molecular weight is generally less than 5% while prevalence due to low molecular weight agents is 5-10%.
